BBC World News

Annice and I are going to follow BBC as our source for World Today.  Here is our first research of the company.

BBC (British Broadcasting Company) was founded on October 8th, 1927 as a private news company.  Now, BBC is a public broadcast, meaning it takes no money for profit, similar to NPR (National Public Radio) here.  It is based in London England, where it serves the people of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, and Wales) and surrounding islands.  They use television, radio, and the web to spread news.  They do not publish a real newspaper.  Their television channels include BBC America, BBC Canada, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Entertainment, BBC Kids, BBC Knowledge, BBC World News, People + Arts, UKTV Australia, Animal Planet, and about 9 other local UK channels.  Sir Michael Lyrons is the current Chairman of the organization.

BBC is not thought of by many to be very biased in either direction.  This could be, because there is no money to be made since it is a public broadcasting company, there is no need to make the stories more "entertaining" by giving them a political slant.  Some critisize BBC because they have somewhat of a liberal bias.  For example, their stories on climate change and "green" technologies (of which there are many) are all pushing for everyone to lower their carbon footprint.  They're also said to have unfair coverage of the Israel-Palestine conflict, denying to give money to aid the struggles in the Gaza Strip.

BBC covers all stories from business, economy, politics, sports, culture/lifestyle, science, technology, and entertainment, all internationally.
