Children Inspiring Hope
1) This program involves bringing children together through different cultures to have a better world view and understanding of other cultures. Amy, the director of this, travels to Ghana twice a year, bringing inspiring artwork from American children. The chlidren in Ghana send a similar project in return. Their goal is to connect children globally and to find a sense of community and support. This brings peace, one friendship at a time.
2) Peace is more than just not being involved in a war or physical fight -- it means to be content with friends, family, and yourself. In my opinion, peace cannot be external, at least not at first. In order to find peace, you must find it in yourself first. This empowers confidence and respect for others. Appreciating and respecting others and their communities is peace. I hope to travel the world and learn their cultures in search of global harmony.
3) I would like to promote peace through crafts and awareness. I don't think we should do artwork as in painting, drawing, or sketches, but maybe something that the Ghanian students could carry with them all the time. This could be a necklace, bracelet, or other type of jewelry. I think that if both sides of this exchange had a constant reminder of the project, there would be a constant awareness of one another. This consciousness of each other and our different cultures could remind us to spread what we've learned to others.
4) I was very inspired by the beautiful jewelry Amy and Mimi passed around during class. They were unique and amazing. It would mean a lot to me if we all made some kind of necklace or bracelet for the children in Ghana. I know that if I had a something made by the hands of a kid in another country that I could wear all the time, I would be very conscious of my new over-seas friend and their culture. Maybe we could to some kind of beaded or woven jewelry project for our Children Inspiring Hope project.
